Who else out there counts themselves a broke college student?
It is really not that much fun living on a budget (oh, reality…), and if you’re anything like me and the likely thousands of other UA students (I feel like I can safely say that, seeing as how there are 30,000 of us now) who penny pinch here and there (and there… and there… and there), you jump on opportunities for FREE STUFF.
Yes, FREE STUFF. Those two words are like the shiny things in store windows that you can’t afford, only better, because they’re FREE. We’ll take free food, free cozies, free t-shirts, and we hold no shame in raiding Get on Board Day, Week of Welcome, and the myriad of other on-campus and community events for the free anythings there are to snatch up.
So, the scoop on some FREE FUN this weekend?—FREE MOVIES. You laugh, you cry, you get to forget exactly how much you should be getting done... And what? It’s free? EVEN BETTER, AMIGO.
Kung Fu Panda 2 is showing on Sunday at the Ferg Theater at 4 and at 8 and not only do you get to go watch it for free, they feed you popcorn and drinks too. – Check out this preview—it’s hilarious

Kung Fu Panda 2 is one of the many movies that the Ferg somehow gets their hands on before the film goes to DVD to share with us lucky ducklings. Being the somewhat nosy person that I am, I asked Diana Merchan, an Event Planner for the Ferguson Center, what the scoop was with this whole free movies/ free food thing.
Q: What’s the movie series all about? Why do it? What is so cool about it?
DM: The move series is about getting students to come out and watch movies that are no longer in theaters but have not come out on DVD yet. We pick movies that will not only be educational for our students but also ones that will leave a good message. This year our theme for the movie series is culture.

Q: Who picks the movies that get shown?
DM: Several RHM students and myself. We decide on the movie after reading the surveys that people fill out from the past movies. Then we just pick the best one that would go well with our theme and that has a good message.
Q: Anything you’d have us know about the movie series and what there is to come?
DM: We are still deciding on what movies come next, but as soon as we know we will announce it on Facebook, Twitter and our Ferg website.
So, if you like free stuff (which, let’s face it, we all do), escaping the real world for a couple of hours, need a study break, want to catch the movie for the first time, or just want to watch it over again because it was awesome (like me =P), come and enjoy the free food and entertainment this Sunday, September 25. Matinee showing is at 4, and the evening showing is at 8.
So let’s go to the movies! – I just had to include this link, you guys. Every time I think about the movies, this song pops into my head, and seeing as it is going to be stuck in my head all day, I feel inexplicably compelled to share it with you!
